SHIELD Lab welcomes postdoctoral researchers interested in advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of structural dynamics, intelligent sensing, data-driven methods, human mobility, and smart infrastructure. Postdoctoral scholars are expected to take an active role in developing research ideas, leading scholarly publications, contributing to proposal development, mentoring students, and building collaborations across engineering and related disciplines.
Current opportunities focus on developing human-centered sensing and computational frameworks for intelligent built environments, with applications in mobility, functional ability, and the communities of the future.

Develop Your Research Identity.
SHIELD Lab is recruiting Ph.D. students interested in addressing research questions at the intersection of people, infrastructure, sensing, and data. Doctoral students will have opportunities to develop expertise in structural dynamics, experimental sensing, signal processing, machine learning, human mobility, smart materials, and intelligent infrastructure while pursuing research questions aligned with their individual interests and SHIELD's broader research vision.
We are looking for students who are curious, motivated, collaborative, and interested in developing independent research skills. Applicants from different engineering backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Turn Engineering Questions Into Research.
SHIELD Lab welcomes master's students interested in gaining deeper research experience through thesis-based and research-focused projects. Master's research opportunities are developed around ongoing SHIELD projects and may involve experimental work, computational modeling, sensing, signal processing, data analysis, human-centered infrastructure, or smart and sustainable materials.
Students are encouraged to bring their own interests and questions to the lab. Projects are shaped according to the student's background, research goals, current SHIELD activities, and available mentorship.

Start Exploring Research.
Research experience can begin before graduate school. SHIELD Lab welcomes UCF undergraduate students who are curious about research and interested in gaining hands-on experience in civil engineering, sensing, experimentation, data analysis, programming, and human-centered infrastructure.
Undergraduate researchers may contribute to ongoing projects through experimental testing, sensor deployment, data collection and processing, computational analysis, literature reviews, and other research activities. Previous research experience is not required. We value curiosity, reliability, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
